2008 DIY (Do It Yourself) Book Festival
The 2008 DIY Book Festival has issued a call for entries for its seventh annual program, which celebrates the success of independent authors and publishers. Award winners will be honored at a ceremony held on October 25, 2008 in Los Angeles in conjunction with the 2008 DIY Book Festival, now in its fourth year.
The DIY Book Festival will consider self-published independent publisher nonfiction, fiction, biography/autobiography, children's books, teenage, how-to, cookbooks, science fiction, audio/spoken word, photography, art, comics, 'zines, fan fiction, poetry and e-books published on or after January 1, 2005. All entries must be in English and have been self-published or issued by an independent house. Works by iUniverse authors are eligible.
The grand prize for the 2008 DIYBF Book of the Year is $1,500 cash and a flight to the awards ceremony. Genre category winners will receive a combination of books, software, and cash awards.
Applications must be accompanied by a completed entry form and a non-refundable entry fee via check, money order, or PayPal online payment of $10-$75 for each submission. Multiple submissions are permitted, but a separate form and entry fee must accompany each entry. Deadline submissions in each category must be postmarked by the close of business on September 25, 2008.

Open Call for 2009 Mom's Choice Awards
The Just for Mom Foundation has announced their 2009 Mom's Choice Awards. With awards in categories for books, magazines, and electronic products, the prestigious Mom's Choice Awards designation will be given to entries whose content and design are stellar and notable. This designation will assist parents, teachers, and loved ones in choosing approved materials for their children.
With more than 140 submission categories for this round of the Mom's Choice Awards, categories include:
